Teachings and prayers for Confirmation

Confirmation

Confirmation is a sacrament to consolidate or affirm our faith and makes us officially part of the Church.

It is a sacrament of the Catholic and Orthodox Church, which affirms the descent of the Holy Spirit on the believer through the laying on of hands by the minister or successors of the apostles.

It is also performed in Protestant Christian churches, such as Lutheran and Reformed, but is not considered a sacrament.

The word confirmation comes from the Latin term confirme, which translates to make strengthen. Basically that is what the sacrament of confirmation consists of, affirming or strengthening the grace of baptism.

Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation are essential for a complete Christian initiation and formation. Therefore, it is important to receive them all, but not lightly, but with the corresponding preparation, disposition and commitment.

When a Christian is going to receive confirmation it is important that he knows certain prayers and has some knowledge, which are required to receive this sacrament.

Not only because it is a requirement, but because there is certain knowledge that as a Catholic you must have, since it is the appropriate way to spread and explain the Catholic faith.

Confirmation gives us the abundance and magnificence of the Holy Spirit, it is the sacrament of Pentecost.

“ The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, benevolence, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control”  (Galatians 5:22).

Prayers for Confirmation

Receiving a sacrament implies preparing our heart, being in contact with it through prayer. For this reason we present some prayers that will allow you to open your heart to God.

Find a moment of silence, peace and recollection, to converse with the Lord and repeat these prayers, whenever you think appropriate.

To receive confirmation

When confirmation is received, a commitment as a Christian is acquired, therefore it is important to stay in connection with God, so that he is the one who prepares our hearts.

For this reason we present a series of prayers for confirmation, which will be very useful for this purpose:

Holy Father, you chose me among hundreds to be part of your kingdom. I, with the greatest respect, love and devotion, accept.

Today anoint me with mercy, love, loyalty, light, devotion and affection.
With you I will achieve the most important and valuable goals of this life.
With your hand, you will lead me along the path of Good, in which I will find joy.

Only with your love, I will be enlightened and from this moment, nothing bad will happen to me if you accompany me.

Oh Lord of heaven, my life belongs to you and today I am reborn under the purpose and design of your sacred word. Amen.

This prayer is also intended to be repeated at the time of receiving confirmation, it is as valid as the previous ones, it only depends on you and which one reaches your heart more:

Father and Lord Almighty, I ask you to welcome this soul and keep it in your sacred hands, so that I may be part of the sacred group that places its trust in you.

Be you the guide that directs my life, the protector that guards my door, the light that illuminates my future, the hand that always gives me its support, the wise word that advises and guides me, the shoulder that comforts me and guides me. Get up when I feel defeated.

Be your Father in heaven, whatever I require in life and allow my faith to lose strength at no time.

Listen to these words that I pronounce today and give me your permission to cross the gates of the kingdom of heaven. Amen.

To start the catechism

It is generally a prayer that is repeated to begin the day of weekly catechesis:

Come this day, Almighty Father of heaven, to receive you in my chest, in the center of my heart and be part of your kingdom.

Come to me, Almighty God, so that my faith, my charity and hope are strong, I welcome you with open arms, to have a new beginning.

Come to meet me at this time my divine protector, so that my soul may be reborn and enjoy the joy and joy that you give to everyone who stays with you in life.

With this prayer I seal my union with you and I hope that, where there was only hate, from now on I only give and receive love. Where the darkness inhabited, only light emanated and where there was only helplessness, may it now find shelter.

Keep in mind my prayers and receive this that I dedicate to you, may it be part of you from this moment now and always forever and ever. Amen.

There is also a slightly shorter one that allows us to start this journey to reaffirm our faith and our baptismal sacrament:

Lord, we have fulfilled the sacrament of baptism and also the sacrament of first communion.

We are on the way and we want to receive the following sacrament to strengthen our faith, confirmation.

Receive us Heavenly Father with open arms, we just want to follow your path and reach the gates of your kingdom. Always guide us away from evil. Amen.

for the youngest

This prayer is appropriate for those young people who are preparing to receive this sacrament, who want to cleanse their hearts and remove everything that makes them dirty from their lives:

God the Almighty Father, today I decide to remove sin from my soul and open my arms to receive and welcome the kingdom of heaven, which enters and echoes in my heart.

I join your army of faithful devotees, who use love as their shield, tolerance as their flag, peace as their armor of protection, and your glorious creator as their leader.

I want from this day to form one with you, that nothing can cause me harm or any harm and instead enjoy your company, support and protection in all scenarios.

I leave my path in your holy hands, guide me where it is needed and may I find the path that always leads me to you.

That from this moment only reflect love, hope and faith, do not allow anything to separate me from you, even when the evil one makes great efforts to do so. Amen.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit for this sacrament

This prayer has the intention of asking for the guidance and protection of the Spirit of God, to receive the sacrament of confirmation and to know how to assume the responsibility that this implies:

O Divine Holy Spirit! You who protect us and light our path.

We implore you to guide us on this important occasion in our lives. We are about to receive confirmation from God the Father Almighty and we need your presence with us.

Stay with us, continue to accompany us, be the light that guides us, keep us on the path to God and deliver us from all evil. Amen.
